Bloc Festival
I do not know how you can royally fuck something up so much as they have done. It was an embarrassment.
Got there at 7pm, queue was an hour long once you actually got up the stairs near the venue. Zig-Zagged through waves of barriers with no security, it descended into free for all. Caught up in wave after wave of shoving combined with disgruntled ticket holders hopping the barriers to get closer to the front, we were eventually met with confused staff on the gate. No searches, no ticket scan, and just a wristband slapped on the hand. Off we went.
In a drunken oblivious state, we trundled off to the cocktail bar and were met with more queues. They were counting people going in, but not those going out. Surely counting people going in, is only relevant if you know how many are leaving? No clue. This was soon to be apparent across all stages. After spending roughly an hour at the bar, we decided to leave to see what the rest of the festival was like.
Carnage. Queues to get into every tent. The MS Stubnitz was operating a 1 in 1 out policy similar to that of the cocktail bar. When we asked how long they had been there, people replied “a few hours”. Their patience was clearly greater than mine.
The arena was then split into 2 parts. The main stage was inaccessible and the only remaining place to go was the Carhaart tent. After walking in through the exit because the queue was ridiculous and you could clearly see the half empty venue inside, I was greeted with the quietest set up I have ever heard in my life.
In the end, we cut our losses and went on a couple of the rides, had a burrito and left.
It was fucking terrible. If it wasn’t for the litre of Captain Morgans I had beforehand, it would of been unbearable.
Who is to blame for all this? The organisers? Bloc? The venue? A combination of greed and the inability to test the venue before it actually got used has caused this to fail. What is shocking is how easily it spiraled out of control - they must have seen this coming, and quite simply did not tell anyone.
What were your experiences at Bloc like? Any stories? I am keen to hear them.
