Cinema Verite - 7/10”A behind-the-scenes look at the making of the first American family to be the subjects of a reality TV show”The film struggled in areas where the original reality show did too. With very little action or drama to keep everyone entertained, making a recreation of the behind-the-scenes around the frustration of those factors, is hardly going to be compelling viewing. It is however, an interesting look at the lines documentary makes are forced to assess when creating these pieces of work and a valid assessment of what everyone perceives as the perfect family. Clearly this much scrutiny is never applied to modern day TV. With the tripe that surfaces on our screens, people are just happy to have their 30 seconds of fame. The difference here is that this film made ‘The Louds’ into celebrities, and now we follow celebrities as a form of aspirational viewing with a inner hatred and desire for them to fail. With ‘The Louds’, this ‘American Family’, you really see how soulless those individuals are who seek such a result in their film creations.
